The Civil War Letters of James Harvey Campbell

a collection of thirty-one civil war letters

All research and interpretation was provided by Mark Lamb. This collection started as a collection of letters belonging to the Savage family, and passed from son to son. There was no real background information other than the knowledge that James Harvey Campbell belonged to the Richmond Typographical Union #90. Through what became a three-year research project these letters, and the various names, places and events therein, began to connect with not only the American Civil War, but also with the genealogy of the Savage family.

Special Thanks

I would like to thank the Savage family for their permission to pursue this project. Without their kindness and patience, it would have not been possible.

Submissions

Please feel free to contact Mark with any questions or comments about these letters. If you have letters or contributions you would like added to American War Chronicles from the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War, please feel free to submit your request. Freelance research opportunities are also welcome.

Mr. Lamb is an Archivist, Researcher, and all-around History buff.
